District forms Food Services Committee
The new district-wide Food Services Committee held its first meeting in 2013, with intentions of monitoring the program throughout the year, identifying ways to improve it, and addressing any questions or concerns.
The group is composed of Superintendent of Schools Neil C. Cavallaro, food services Director Meg Kingston, school nurses Sandy McCauley and Claudette Glassman, parents Michelle Caprio, Christine El-Bakri and Ron Quagliani, Pagels Principal Gary Palermo, West Haven High School Assistant Principal John Dellacamera, Bailey Middle School Assistant Principal Valerie Bruneau, Carrigan Intermediate School teacher Leslie Morgan, WHHS student Catherine DePino, and school board members M. Toni Paine and Betsy Davis.
The committee was formed because the district hired food management company Sodexo to run the food services program. The move has helped to improve food quality, prevent the program from continuing to lose money, and give administrators more time to their core mission of education. Existing food services employees continue to work for the program and will remain unionized.
Cavallaro said he hopes the new committee can help the program continue to be a success and that the food service program can make changes if they appear needed.
