West Haven's vision for the English Learner (EL) is to ensure that students and families become a part of the school community and have the opportunity to share the culture and diversity. We strive to provide academic, cultural, and social support to all our EL students and families.
West Haven provides services to all nine schools utilizing 14 full-time certified teachers, one bilingual coach, 16 bilingual tutors, with the assistance of 2 full-time EL paraprofessionals. We also run a very successful ESL program as part of our Adult Education program for adults who speak English as their second language.
West Haven is proud that we have students from all over the globe, and we work hard to meet their needs.
We have families from 45 countries with 42 languages spoken. Some of the countries are: Afghanistan, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Chile, China, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ghana, Guatemala, Guinea, Haiti, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Mexico, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sudan, Syria, The Congo, The Dominican Republic, The Philippines, The United Arab Emirates, Togo, Trinidad & Tobago, Turkey, and Zimbabwe.
West Haven's top three languages are - Spanish, Pashto, and Arabic. Other examples of spoken languages are: Ashanti, Bengali, Cantonese, Creole-Haitian, Dari, Farsi, French, Hindi, Malay, Mandarin, Navajo, Pashto, Patois, Persian, Portuguese, Punjabi, Pushto, Swahili, Tagalog, Turkish, Urdu, and Wolof.
