A message from the Assistant Superintendent to the West Haven Community:

Dear Parents, Students, Staff and West Haven Friends,

Welcome to our district website. You will find as you familiarize yourself with what the website has to offer that there is a multitude of activities and information about the district and individual schools.  We are proud of all the accomplishments that the schools have made, especially during this past year with the challenge of COVID. Schools were able to maintain their high expectations that our students would continue to excel.

We persist to review and revise our curriculum to not only reflect the standards, but the needs of our students.  This past year with Distance Learning as an option, challenged the staff to not only take in account the students doing in-person learning, but to adjust and support remote learners. The national standards continue to be reflected in daily teaching utilizing differentiated instruction and research-based strategies across all grade levels.

This coming school year we will continue to give teachers the tools to teach all children by offering professional development that supports them with a focus on “Back to Basic” strategies. We will continue to improve our instructional model through planning and collaboration.

West Haven Schools offer many types of after school activities as well as family nights.  On any one day there may be a professional hockey game or swimming competition, in the high school, or a family night where students can take part in special activities with their parents. The school district is proud and excited to be a part of the diverse community we serve.  Many of our activities and events celebrate the different cultures of our community and we encourage you to become a part of our West Haven Family. Please take the time to look at your child’s individual school to see what is taking place. Parent involvement is the key to student success, whether it is cheering them on at a football game or attending a PTA meeting, or concert.

I look forward to working with all West Haven families to continue to support high expectations for all our children to become responsible adults in our community.
